Coming Soon: The Cutest Darn Pictures You Will Ever See

Today we had Jameson's newborn pictures taken! Doni (the photographer) was nice enough to come to our house since we can't take JD anywhere. And she also obeyed all our crazy sanitation rules for entering our home these days ;)
These pictures are going to be amazing! The shots and angles and fun poses she did with him are just priceless. And what a rockstar Jameson was! He slept the entire 4 hours, except for a little feeding break in the middle! We all moved and contorted his little body and he could of cared less, it was hysterical :)
So stay tuned in the coming week or so for the fruits of Doni's labor and our precious little boy in his first photo shoot :)

Mother and Son

Hi everyone! It's Andy this time. With our crazy schedule lately, we will be sharing blogging responsibilities for a while :)

Kylie is so amazing. The past 11 days have been the absolute worst, but also the best, days of our lives. Through them all, she has been tremendously strong. Occasionally breaking but never losing it, she has set a tone and example that puts me at ease. These are the foundations of our family unit, and I am fortunate to have someone like her leading it.

Also, a personal thank you to everyone offering thoughts and prayers for us. It is powerful. When you hear the doctors and nurses say things like "Boys like him never recover this quickly" and "He looks so good", there is so much at play. We know his success is a result of the science that provided an early diagnosis and a non-invasive repair, but it also the loving energy that surrounds us and consumes us. Thank you for that.

JD continues to make big progress

It has been a productive week for Mister Jameson. He has come off the respirator, off all his blood pressure and pain meds and got his stomach tube out so he could start eating. Today he bottle fed with my breast milk 3 successful times! He is ahead of schedule and beating the odds for his time to recovery. Here is a little video of all the faces we have been enjoying over the last few days.

Meet Jameson Dean Kirkland

Jameson Dean Kirkland has made his entrance into this world. He arrived October 9th at 4:18pm. He weighed in at 5 pounds 14 ounces and 19 inches long. Just a little peanut :) I had a c section and everything went well. He came out screaming (which the NICU team did not want to happen) but I was kind of glad to hear him. The intibated him right away so no more screams after that. I did not get to see him until later that night, but Andy was right there and said he was perfect! The NICU team wisked him away and Andy went with the baby while I was getting stitched up. Lots happened to poor Jameson in those first few hours. The short story is that his diaphragmatic hernia was on the smaller side. So he was strong and stable enough to wait it out a few days so they could fully assess the situation to make sure they knew exactly what they were working with before surgery. After many xrays, scans, and assesments they decided to do the surgery today, October 12th at 1:30pm. It was a rough morning but Jameson made it through the surgery with flying clolors. They were even able to perform it laproscopically, which means they made 2 small incisions (one for the camera and one for the tools). They were able to push his colon and intestines back down into their natural resting place, repair the hernia, and pump his right lung up all through a scope. We even got before and after pictures of the hernia and his lung! Unbelievable!!!
The surgeons were extrememly happy with how the surgery went. As were we :) The neonatologists, pediatric surgeons, anestisiologist, and nurses are all extremely optimistic about Jameson's prognosis.
At this time, Jameson is stable and resting peacefully. We could not believe how well he looked coming out of surgery, he is still nice and pink :) He is still using a respirator to breathe with but tomorrow he will start to be weened off of that. They are already lowering his blood pressure meds too! Once he is breathing on his own we will start with the feeding process. They will start with my milk through a feeding tube in very small amounts. Because of the nature of his hernia, his body is retraining his bowels so it will be a slow and steady process of digestion.
So all in all, this was the best case scenario for this diagnosis. At the end of the day we have a beautiful baby boy that is a miracle on so many levels! We love you so much Jameson Dean and already we don't know what we ever did without you!

New Info on Baby and Delivery

This week has had it's ups and downs to say the least. On Tuesday we found out through an ultrasound that they thought the baby had a hernia in his diaphragm. So my doctor sent us to a perinatologist (an ob specialist) for another ultrasound and 2nd opinion. So Wednesday we had that appt. and they confirmed the hernia. A part of his colon is up in his chest cavity which has caused his heart to shift to the right and his lung to be compressed. It sounds worse than it is, sort of. The baby will have to have surgery to repair the hernia. They will not know the severity of the situation until he is delivered. The surgery could be the same day or weeks later. Because of this situation we will be delivering at St. Joseph's Hospital via c-section. This is because St. Joseph's has an amazing NICU team and pediatric surgeons that will be ready and available as soon as he arrives.
On the up side, it is truly a blessing that this complication was detected before he was delivered. It could be so much worse if this was not known and there was complete scramble and disarray after his delivery. So we feel very fortunate and optimistic for this delivery and our baby's aftercare.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers in the upcoming days and weeks. The c-section is scheduled for tomorrow, October 9th, at 4:00pm. I will update as soon as I can.
Love to you all,
Kylie, Andy, and Baby

Today's Dr. appt.

So I went to the doctor today. Everything is all set for next Friday. I have to go in to the hospital on Thursday to get this hormonal gel put around my cervix to soften it up for the induction. It is supposed to help the process along because I am technically not due for 3 more weeks. The gel is called Cervadil and it is a 4-6 hour process!!! So I sure hope it makes a difference because I am not thrilled to be spending my last pregnant/child-less day in the hospital!
